Death of Van Gogh?

1973, 5 minutes, 16mm film
music by Iannis Xenakis
text by Antonin Artaud
spoken by Robert Blacklock

Donebauer’s graduation film (as opposed to video) at the Royal College of Art (1974) combined live action and animation from still images and accompanied a soundtrack by Iannis Xenakis. This was the only time he ever used pre-existing music.

It metaphorically explores the external psychic tension between visionaries and society and the internal psychic tension between creative and metaphysical issues.
