part 5 of The Creation Cycle
1975, 15 minutes

Teeming was inspired mainly by the process of internal meditation, focussing on the ability of inner consciousness to manifest forms within this medium. External generated imagery (from cameras) only appears at the beginning and end of the tape; all other imagery was generated by feedback processes i.e. the electronics looking in upon itself as a metaphor for meditation.

Most of the sound was pre-recorded, but mixed live with some live addition.

Teeming was the first of three consecutive works funded by the British Film Institute, under the chairmanship of Barrie Gavin, over a period of two years – apparently I was the only video artist ever to receive funding from this source as their main remit was “film” (!) They also funded Dawn Creation and Circling and the development of the Videokalos Colour Synthesiser to a functional prototype stage – built in a wooden cabinet.
