Moving

Moving was my first tape to incorporate elements pre-recorded outside the studio environment. It was a commission by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation – I was the first artist to receive a video bursary from them linked to work at the Aidanvision studio in Cumbria.

The piece has a poetic engagement with the four elements of earth, air, fire and water, with these naturalistic elements pre-recorded (in monochrome)  and pre-edited to form an initial compositional structure. The recorded piece was then a typical improvised performance of myself, the musician and a dancer working in a studio environment with the naturalistic elements mixed in and processed live.

It formed a link between my studio work and the more commercial Water Cycle which followed
